There’s a hell of a party coming up, and I want to invite you.
On the 24th of April, there is a microbrewery festival in Parkville, MO. “What is that?” you may ask. If you’ve never been to a beer festival, here’s your chance – you receive a tasting glass, and make your way from tent to tent trying all sorts of regional beer that perhaps you’ve never had the opportunity to taste before. It’s $20 a person, and well worth it.
Here’s the fun part – BeerGenius is sponsoring, along with d•luxe Lounge and Cigar Deck (160 South Main; Parkville, MO 64152 | 816.741.1400), an afterparty for the festival. Super close to the festival venue, and they carry a killer beer selection.
So I was at d•luxe the other day, and came across something in their beer selection that I hadn’t had before (shocking, I know). Dinh, the General Manager of d•luxe, and I, decided to give it a whirl. Check out Monk’s Cafe Flemish Sour Ale, and some shots of d•luxe, below:
The Breakdown:
- Originality within style (18): This is definitely a unique brew. If you haven’t had a sour ale before, this is an excellent way to go. Not too over-the-top.
- Nose (17): Notes of cherry, vinegar, sour mash
- Mouthfeel (18): viscous, covers the full palate, and hits all your taste buds in a pleasant manner.
- Character (17): Lots of cherry, sour malt, and vinegar, with some other dark fruits present, and a toasted malt quality typical of most red ales.
- Overall Quality (17): well put-together sour that’s interesting and a bit complex.
- Total (87): An interesting sour ale good for the everyman.

Have lived in Leavenworth for 15 years, don’t ever remember there being a brewfest in Parkville. Is this going to be an every year occasion? regret I will miss this one as I am in Afghanistan
